Domain Hack

A domain where the TLD completes a word or phrase — like "del.icio.us" or "instagr.am."

A domain hack is a domain name where the TLD forms part of the word or phrase when combined with the SLD — creating a clever, memorable URL. Examples include del.icio.us (using .us), bit.ly (using .ly, Libya), instagr.am (using .am, Armenia), and t.co (using .co). Domain hacks were popular for URL shorteners and startups seeking short, creative domains before short .com domains became unattainable.
