Domain Seizure
Government-ordered confiscation of a domain name as part of legal or criminal enforcement action.
Domain seizure is the government-ordered or court-ordered transfer of a domain name away from its registrant, typically as part of criminal enforcement actions (fraud, copyright infringement, drug sales) or civil asset forfeiture. US authorities have seized hundreds of domain names by serving orders on US-based registrars and registries like Verisign. Non-US ccTLDs and blockchain domains are harder to seize.
