Layer 2 refers to scaling solutions built on top of a base blockchain (Layer 1 like Ethereum) that process transactions faster and cheaper while inheriting the security of the base layer. For Web3 domains, Polygon (used by Unstoppable Domains) is an L2 that enables near-free domain minting and transfers. Other L2s include Optimism, Arbitrum, and Base. L2 adoption is critical for making Web3 domains practical for mainstream users.
