Verisign is the registry operator for .com and .net, the two largest TLDs in the world. Under an agreement with ICANN, Verisign maintains the authoritative database of all .com and .net registrations and operates two of the thirteen DNS root servers. Verisign also operates the root zone maintainer function on behalf of IANA. Its control of .com makes it one of the most strategically important companies in internet infrastructure.
