IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority)

The ICANN body that manages the DNS root zone, IP address allocation, and protocol registries.

IANA is the body responsible for global coordination of the DNS root zone, IP address allocation, and internet protocol parameters. As a function of ICANN, IANA maintains the root zone database, assigns IP address blocks to regional registries, and manages protocol number registries. IANA is responsible for delegating country-code TLDs to national authorities and publishing the authoritative list of all TLDs.
