ICANN
The nonprofit that oversees the global domain name system and accredits registrars.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the non-profit organization responsible for coordinating the global domain name system, IP address allocation, and protocol parameters. ICANN accredits domain registrars, oversees registries, manages the root zone, and handles policy disputes. It introduced the new gTLD program in 2012, expanding TLDs from a few dozen to over 1,200.
