Redemption Period

The phase after the grace period where a domain can be recovered only by the original registrant, with a large fee.

The redemption period is the phase after a domain's grace period expires but before the domain is deleted and released. During this period (typically 30 days), only the previous registrant can recover the domain, but must pay a substantial redemption fee (usually $50–$300 on top of renewal costs). After the redemption period, the domain enters a pending-delete phase before being released to the public.
